Geographic information systems (GIS) make it possible to link, analyze and communicate data using geographic context. Maps and charts produced by a GIS can help reveal relationships, patterns and trends in a way that is quickly understood and easy to share; they not only provide a powerful way to present data, but just as importantly, can be used to link data from different sources using a common geography which can result in a more complete understanding of the data.
